Corruption in Spanish football and rigging match-fixing seem to extend beyond the Iberian borders, with the names of the Serie A Frosinone and Italian Ciro Immobile de la Lazio teams being mentioned in the summary.
But the ties of Immobile with the case are indirect enough and there is no reason to think that the Italian international is involved in matches.
In the documents to which MARCA had access, the transcript of a recorded conversation between Carlos Aranda and Mattia Mariotti seems to serve as an intermediary between the protagonists of the investigation and the players.
The conversation, recorded with the help of a device installed in Aranda's car, hears the couple discussing what can be offered to the players in order to predetermine the outcome of a match, indicating the results or objectives.
During the conversation, Mariotti explains to Aranda that he has a "long-haired friend" who runs an illegal gambling house for which Immobile was a regular customer.
"Immobile of Lazio also plays with him, he is his client, the striker," the Italian told Aranda.
The Italian international may not be a focus for match-fixing, but the recently relegated Frosinone players may face a different fate.
"Thursday, I see myself with the Frosinone team," continues Mariotti in the recording.
"My long-haired friend will take me. He is trapped, what is the name of his manager, who is still with the team, who is very close to the players … You understand? He will have dinner with all the players. "
