Former President John Mahama is urging the government to halt deployment of new infrastructure projects and focus on completing existing projects.
Speaking during a visit to the Volta region, he said that after observation, there are many unfinished projects across the country that, when completed, would contribute to development.
“You’re not going to build a new high school when you have a high school that has been abandoned. I think this is what the government should be doing, suspending new projects, spending resources and ending current and existing projects, ”he told J.oyNews’ Joseph Opoku Gakpo.
Mahama said the government can start building new infrastructure after completing abandoned ones.
The former president made the comment when he joined members of the Volta Caucus in Parliament to present relief items to residents whose homes were destroyed in the tsunami incident in May.
The 2020 NDC presidential candidate expressed concern that projects like the Agavedzi and Salakope maritime defense projects in South Ketu Municipality, which his government launched, have since been suspended. the takeover of the nuclear power plant in 2017.
He expressed concern that the situation would result in the destruction of houses in the enclave by the tidal waves.
“In everything you prioritize, depending on the way things are and I think the plight of the people we’ve seen here deserves some attention if the funds are available to continue this project,” he added.
Mahama assured that if re-elected to power, the NDC will not implement any new projects in its first year until the old ones are completed.
Meanwhile, Ketu Southern Constituency MP Dzifa Gomashie expressed concern that her repeated calls for the government to complete the maritime defense project have fallen on deaf ears. .
President of the Volta Caucus in Parliament, Emmanuel Bedzrah also assured that a future NDC government would complete the maritime defense project to protect the population.

Items donated include 1,000 bags of cement, 20 roof bags, 100 bags of rice and 200 bags of water in sachets.
