The government says reports that the unvaccinated will be punished is false.

A statement released in Accra on Wednesday March 10, 2021 by the Ministry of Information called on the general public to ignore this information.

SUBJECT: GOVERNMENT SANCTIONS PEOPLE WHO REFUSE COVID-19 VACCINE

The attention of the Ministry of Information has been drawn to a fake publication by a number of reputable online portals and newspapers that the government will sanction people who refuse to take the COVID-19 vaccine

This report is false. The government has neither made nor announced such a decision. For the avoidance of doubt, below is the quote from the Information Minister’s remarks during a press briefing in Peduase on Monday March 8, 2021, when asked whether or not sanctions will be imposed on people. refusing COVID-19. vaccines

“As of yet, no sanctions have been put in place. We strongly encourage people to take the vaccine and we are happy to see that the initial reluctance to the vaccine seems to be easing a bit and we commend you for our colleagues in the media that you help us.

We congratulate our colleagues at NCCE, ISD. As we get the message out, we notice that the reluctance is gradually decreasing and more and more people are volunteering to be vaccinated. So we have not needed to introduce sanctions for the moment. The general public is advised to ignore these bogus publications. Ghanaians are, however, encouraged to take the vaccine to reduce the risk of serious illness from COVID-19.
