Study finds daily portion of fried chicken can increase risk of premature death

[ad_1]

Scientists have discovered that eating a daily portion of fried chicken could be linked to premature death.

The harmful impact of excessive consumption of fried foods by excessive amounts has been documented for a long time, with negative effects, including an increased risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and becoming obese.

Some people may think that eating a small amount of fried food a day does not hurt, but researchers have found that it can lead to early death from cardiovascular problems.

A team from the University of Iowa and the University of Washington conducted a study published in a medical journal BMJ determine how fried foods affect menopausal women.

The researchers evaluated data from more than 100,000 women aged 50 to 79, who were collected using a questionnaire conducted by the Women's Health Initiative (WHI).

The women whose information was badyzed in the study were enrolled in WHI between 1993 and 1998.

They were then monitored until February 2017.

During the 19 to 24 year period, 31,588 women died.

More than 9,000 of these deaths were due to heart problems, more than 8,000 due to cancer and more than 13,000 to other causes.

Scientists badessed the amount of fried food that participants consumed regularly, including dishes such as fried chicken, fried fish and fries.

After taking into account other lifestyle factors, the team concluded that daily consumption of fried foods was more likely to be badociated with premature death, caused by a heart condition or other cause, than eating fried foods less frequently.

Eating one or more portions of fried chicken a day increases the risk of premature death of any cause by 13% and the risk of death due to cardiovascular disease by 12%.

A daily portion of fried fish had the same negative consequences: an increased risk of premature death of 7%, regardless of the cause, and an increased risk of 13% of death due to a heart problem.

Although the study is observational, researchers believe that the large size of the cohort makes the results of their study reliable.

"We have identified a risk factor for cardiovascular mortality that is easily modifiable by lifestyle and culinary choices," they conclude.

"Reducing the consumption of fried foods, particularly fried chicken and fried fish / shellfish, could have a clinically significant effect across the spectrum of public health."
