Hyderabad: Chills, loss of appetite, headaches and muscle pain are the four new symptoms of Covid-19, a study from Imperial College London, which has covered a million people affected, has concluded.

The study was carried out from June 2020 to January 2021. It showed that some of the other symptoms were often not taken into account by those affected.

Experts in India say they only do tests after they identify symptoms of cough, cold, fever and diarrhea in patients. During the investigation, they also found that the patients suffered from loss of appetite, muscle pain and headaches.

These additional symptoms also occur in conditions like migraine, heart problems, and diabetes, and therefore are confusing to people. “A lot of those affected don’t even remember, until asked, what triggered their illness.”

Senior Internal Medicine Specialist Dr R. Raghu explained, “Fever is often the last symptom in many patients with SARS-CoV-2. Until the onset of fever, testing is not done. With so many different symptoms, it’s hard for people to understand if they are suffering from Covid. “

One of the reasons people don’t want to talk about their symptoms is the stigma of the disease. Often, it takes a lot of investigation in patients with mild symptoms to find out if they actually have Covid-19.

There have been cases where the first day’s tests are negative and the lungs empty; but, after two days, the lungs are completely filled with the virus.

With the British and South African variants, these new symptoms need to be monitored. India’s travel restrictions have helped control the spread of these two variants. There are mutations inside and it is important to watch for them.

A senior scientist from the city’s Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) said, “Very few cases are reported in our medical bulletin. It creates psychological respite among people. The panic is gone, and that’s good; but, safety precautions should not be abandoned.

Sporadic cases are noted and it is important not to allow these to form in huge clusters. There are still unreported and also asymptomatic carriers who are moving. This means that the virus is active. “
