Sudan has closed the office of the Qatari television channel Al-Jazeera in Khartoum, the station said on Thursday, adding that the work permits of its staff have also been withdrawn.
The Qatar-based television channel said Sudanese security officers had informed it of the Sudanese Transitional Military Council's decision to close its offices.
"The decision also includes the withdrawal of work permits for correspondents and Al-Jazeera network staff from now on," said the channel, which regularly broadcasts footage of protests in Sudan.
No written decision has been given to the director of the office, the channel said.
"They told us that the military council had decided to close the office of the Al-Jazeera network and withdraw its license, Al-Musallami Al-Kabbashi," said the director of the station's office in Khartoum, at the same time. ; AFP.
"We gave them the equipment and the office," he added.
The Transitional Military Council took power after the overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir, a close ally of Qatar by the army.
The head of council, Abdelfattah al-Burhan, went to Saudi Arabia on Thursday to attend a summit. He had already visited Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia broke off diplomatic relations with Doha in 2017, accusing them of terrorism, which they deny.
The generals, backed by key Arab powers, resisted calls from African and Western governments to hand over the reins of power.
