Suzuki produced 1.6 million vehicles in India alone in 2017
Japanese automaker Suzuki Motors Corporation has announced plans to set up an badembly plant in Ghana to start production of Suzuki vehicles to supply the company's growing African market.
Mr. Koichi Suzuki, General Manager of the Middle East Automotive Department for Suzuki Motors, made the announcement on March 19, 2019, when he was leading a delegation to pay a courtesy call on President Akufo Addo at Jubilee House.
According to Koichi Suzuki, the proposed badembly plant will be a partnership between Suzuki, CFAO and Toyota Tsusho Corporation. He added that this partnership sought to replicate the success of Suzuki vehicle production in India, where it began production in December 1983.
In 2017, Suzuki produced 1.6 million vehicles in India alone and currently held 50.30% of the automotive market share in the automotive industry. Mr. Suzuki, the vehicles mainly made in India, are affordable, reliable, safe, fuel efficient and very well accepted by the Indian people.
"I am stationed in India and my mission is to find the next India on the African continent. Toyota Tsusho has learned that the Ghanaian government is planning to implement a new car policy. We are eager to participate in such an initiative of the Ghanaian Government. We want to start production here and expand and develop it, "said Suzuki.
In his remarks, President Akufo Addo said the news brought by Suzuki Motors Corporation is very encouraging. "These three companies, [Suzuki, CFAO and Toyota Tsusho corporation], who came together to advance an idea here in Ghana is an idea that we must acknowledge. "
The president further stated that his administration was "interested in developing a dynamic and dynamic automotive industry in Ghana".
"Your arrival here is at a convenient time. Our policy has been slow to develop, but it is ready, "added the President.
He urged ongoing discussions between Suzuki, its partners and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to be accelerated to ensure that the main goal of producing affordable Suzuki vehicles in Ghana is realized as soon as possible possible.
Suzuki Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational company based in Minami-ku, Hamamatsu. Suzuki manufactures automobiles, four-wheel drive vehicles, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), outboard marine engines, wheelchairs and various other small internal combustion engines.
In 2016, Suzuki was the world's 11th largest car manufacturer by production. Suzuki has more than 45,000 employees, 35 production facilities in 23 countries and 133 distributors in 192 countries.
The volume of global car sales is the tenth of the world, while the volume of domestic sales is the third in the country.
