Huw Jenkins has stepped down as president of the Swansea City championship club.
Jenkins was appointed president in January 2002 and oversaw a dramatic turnaround.
The club almost left the Football League in 2003 before becoming divisional to win the Premier League promotion in 2011.
"It's very sad but I feel that I have little or no option [but] leave my position, "he said.
But Jenkins has been criticized by some Swansea fans since the club's purchase in 2016 by American couple Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan.
Calls for his resignation have intensified since the relegation of the club to the league last season.
On Saturday, the Swansea City Supporters' Trust criticized the club's owners for their lack of ambition and called on Jenkins to withdraw.
This took place as a result of a January transfer slot in which the club lost other players and proceeded to no signing.
"The city of Swansea has been part of my life from an early age," added Jenkins.
"Over the past 17 years, I have been very lucky to realize my childhood dreams, having directed and directed the club while playing football leagues and competing with the elite of football. British Premier League for seven seasons.
