STOCKHOLM (Reuters) – Swedbank's nominating committee has nominated former Prime Minister Goran Persson as chairman of the Swedish banking group, which has spent the last few months fighting the repercussions of money laundering alleged in his Baltic enterprise.
Persson served as prime minister of the center-left Social Democratic Party for a decade until 2006 and has since pursued various commercial interests. He was also Minister of Finance before taking up the post of Prime Minister.
"Goran has an impressive list of accomplishments, an extensive network of international contacts and financial operations experience," said Lennart Haglund, chairman of the bank's nominating committee, in a statement released on Sunday.
