Google just helped put another nail in the coffin of Adobe Flash. Swiffy, their new tool, lets you easily convert simple Flash SWF animations and games into HTML5-compatible, viewable and interactive code on any iPhone or iPad.

Swiffy is not a miracle worker – it works better with simpler Flash games and animations, and it only works in WebKit browsers such as Safari, Mobile Safari, and Chrome. That said, the demonstrations are quite impressive.

For best results, Google recommends exporting your Flash movie as a SWF file. Here's how it works:

A SWF file is converted into two phases: the Swiffy compiler (which you can use on this website) processes the SWF file and generates a JSON file. A client-side JavaScript runtime loads this JSON file and renders it using HTML, SVG, and CSS

Pretty cool. In a year, I guess even Adobe will stop trying to pretend that Flash is essential to use the Web. The battle is over and even the so-called Adobe allies are abandoning it now.
