At least 226 people in India have died since the beginning of the year from a swine flu epidemic.
The H1N1 virus killed 31 people in the week or Monday, local media reported on Monday, citing statistics from the Indian Ministry of Health.
Nationally, 6,601 people have been tested positive for the disease since the beginning of the year, of whom 2,030 have been infected in the past seven days.
The record is currently highest in the state of northern Rajasthan, where at least 85 people have died.
The death toll was also high in the states of Delhi, Gujarat and Haryana, as the virus spread across the country.
