Sylvester Stallone’s The Suicide Squad topped the box office in its opening weekend, which means Stallone now has a No.1 movie for six consecutive decades.

Sylvester Stallone has now had a number one movie in six different decades thanks to its latest release, The suicide squad. Stallone has made a name for himself with the iconic Rocky film in 1976, which became the highest grossing film of that year and won the Best Picture award at the Oscars. Rocky eventually became a franchise spanning several decades, and on top of that, Stallone starred in Rambo, giving the action star another beloved franchise that has garnered her decades-long box-office success. However, more recently, the evergreen Hollywood action star has constantly reinvented herself, launching The Expendables franchise, with Consumables 4 maybe on the way, and has found its way into superhero projects like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and The suicide squad.

The suicide squad is James Gunn’s smooth reboot of the popular DC franchise, and the story revolves around Task Force X embarking on a dangerous mission against Corto Maltese. Gunn introduces a host of new characters to his Task Force X, one of them being Nanaue, or King Shark, an incredibly deadly but rather humorous fish voiced by Stallone. In addition to the film which received rave reviews, with much praise for Stallone’s King Shark, the Suicide Squad also topped the box office in its opening weekend with a total of $ 26.5 million. Although this is lower than initially projected, the number one position has earned Stallone an incredible accolade.

Stallone’s accomplishment cannot be ignored, especially when you look at how the 75-year-old has managed to stay in a top position, still mostly in his favorite action genre. In contrast, many of his fellow action stars of the ’80s and’ 90s have struggled lately. Also, having reached this stage with The suicide squad shows the reach and adaptability of Stallone. He’s had some tough times in his career, but like his character as Rocky, he’s found a way to rise again, and this accomplishment is a testament to that.

Stallone shows no signs of slowing down like his next superhero tale Samaritan, where the action star plays a long-lost superhero, will be released next year. Although he’s apparently finished playing Rocky Balboa in Creed, he teased a possible Rocky prequel television series and will release its director’s cut of Rocky IV this november. In addition, with more The suicide squad characters who can get spinoff TV shows, and given King Shark’s popularity with audiences, Sly may have found a character he can come back to. However, for now, fans can appreciate the Rocky the incredible feat of the star with The suicide squad.
