Epidemiological Summary (January)

In weeks 10 to 13 (March) 2019, weekly cases of ILI decreased by 12% nationally, representing a first decrease in the number of cases in more than seven months. In March, acute respiratory illnesses (AIRS) also declined, with weekly case rates declining by 30%. Weekly cases of acute diarrheal diseases remained stable at the national level for the second month in a row, although hot spots were observed in parts of Aleppo, Ar-Raqqa, Dar'a and Rural Damascus governorates. Hepatitis A case rates continued to fall by 17% in March, with the largest declines in the Tartous and Lattakia governorates of 52% and 41% respectively. Weekly cases of leishmaniasis increased again nationally in March, but to a lesser extent (3%) than in February (7%), with Idleb governorate most affected, followed by Deir-ez-Zor.
