For the first time, the two alleged Nigerian kidnappers of Takoradi's three daughters have appeared in court for their long-awaited trial to begin.

The two men, 28-year-old Samuel Udoetuk Wills, and his 29-year-old accomplice, John Oji, arrived at the Sekondi High Court in a tinted police vehicle and head under the hood in a heightened security environment.

Samuel Udoetuk-Wills has already been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for escaping legal custody and causing damage to public property by a Takoradi court of first instance. He returns to Oji 's side to be judged in the kidnapping case.

Oji, who was arrested in neighboring Togo through a special Ghanaian police operation, was charged with conspiracy and kidnapping.

Yesterday in court, Adelaide Kobir eWoode, who was leading a prosecution team, told the court that the name of John Oji had been mentioned about the abduction of the three girls in Takoradi.

The High Court of Sekondi, presided over by Judge Hannah Taylor, placed him in custody and asked that the two suspects be reunited at the next adjourned hearing on July 24.

The prosecutor told the court that they had to make changes to the indictment given the recent developments and also indicated that the defendants should be represented by a lawyer.

The suspects were quickly taken into a Ford Pickup vehicle by a team of armed police.
