T-Mobile Says Hackers Steal About 7.8 Million Personal Data From Postpaid Customers

Aug. 18 (Reuters) – T-Mobile US Inc (TMUS.O) said on Wednesday that an ongoing investigation into a cyber attack on its systems found that some personal data of about 7.8 million of its current postpaid customers have been compromised.

The company learned of the attack late last week, it said in a statement, after an online forum claimed that its users’ personal data had been disclosed.

The data of about 850,000 prepaid customers and more than 40 million records from alumni or potential customers was also stolen, T-Mobile said.

The breached data included clients’ first and last names, date of birth, social security numbers and driver’s license information, he said, but there was no indication that their financial information was compromised.

The telecommunications operator acknowledged the data breach on Monday and expressed confidence that the entry point used to access the data had been closed. Read more
