President of the National Peace Council, Professor Emmanuel Asante
The chairman of the National Peace Council attributed the shooting that occurred during the partial election of Ayawaso West Wuogon to the lack of coordination on the part of security agencies.
While voting was underway at Voting Station 1 of the Bawaleshie Presbyterian Basic School, armed and masked men besieged the residence of the NDC candidate in the poll, Delali Kwasi Brempong, located a few feet from the polling station. , and shot house.
The situation frightened voters when they heard gunshots and voting procedures were interrupted for some time until calm was restored.
As a result of the incident, many questioned the authority and identity of the masked security men who besieged the NDC candidate's residence.
Speaking about TV3's key points over the weekend, Professor Asante said the incident could have been avoided if security agencies had ensured proper coordination before the elections.
"The coordination concerns me, the coordination of our security agents. Who is responsible for what? Have national problems of this nature, such as elections, really called for an uncoordinated security presence? Asked the president of the Peace Council.
According to him, it is the problems of uncoordinated security agents and the resulting consequences of violence that are at the origin of the terrorist attacks.
As a result, he advised the country's security agencies to learn from Boko Haram's activities in neighboring Nigeria and not to participate in any activities that could create such groups in Ghana.
"If it's not well coordinated, we'll have problems in our hands.
"Let us follow the example of Boko Haram, because it is not just Boko Haram, and we should not create monsters that turn around to bother us," he said. .
He condemned the incident in La Bawaleshie and said that it could have been avoided if the country's security apparatus did not fail to put things in order to ensure maximum security. .
Professor Asante added that the authorities should not delay in ensuring that the perpetrators of the shooting are brought to justice.
"It is something that has not been called, and it must be condemned, but not only, the perpetrators must be brought to justice and the trial must be swift.
"This is not something that should delay, because when these things were happening, there were policemen around.
"Therefore, it will be wrong to tell anyone that we do not know who these people are, the videos are there and they should be able to get them and bring them to the book," he said.
He also called on political leaders to demonstrate deconstruction to calm situations instead of pushing their supporters against each other.
"We want our leaders to calm things down and not ignite pbadion. We need a voice of moderation, Ghana must come first, "he added.
