President Akufo-Addo assured Ghanaians that Covid-19 vaccines are safe and would not pose a threat to the health of any citizen.
“I know some continue to express doubts about the vaccine, others have expressed reservations about its effectiveness, some taking sides with conspiracy theorists who believe the vaccine was created to wipe out the African race.
“This is far from the truth. As president, I want to assure you that the vaccine is safe,” he said in his 24th speech to the nation on measures taken to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic over the country.
This follows the arrival of some 600,000 vaccines deployed to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Before the vaccines arrived, part of the population had expressed their fear about vaccines.
Some of them have stated that they will not receive them because they were designed to eliminate the people who receive them.
However, the president allayed the fears by stating categorically that “taking the vaccine will not alter your DNA. It will not integrate a tracking device into your body, nor will it cause infertility in women or men. “
“Our national regulatory agency, the FDA, one of the most reputable in Africa and the world, has certified the safe use of the vaccine.
“He won’t do that if he has reservations about the safety of the vaccine, and I have publicly stated that no vaccine will be deployed in the country for use without the express certification of the FDA,” he said. he adds.
The president, vice president and their wives as well as senior officials are expected to take the first dose of the 600,000 Covid-19 vaccines that arrived last Wednesday.
This, the president explained, is ongoing because “the vaccine will help protect us against the impact of Covid-19 on our health.
“It is also a major catalyst in restoring livelihoods and the national economy to the solid level to which they belong.”
He further encouraged faith groups, civil society, media and all Ghanaians to support the public education campaign associated with the exercise.
“We need all the practical tools to make it a success,” he added.
