On Friday, March 23, 2019, Rose Mawusi Fiaku removed the baby from her mother on the pretext of buying sausage.
The case saw the lady being asked to undergo a pregnancy test after telling the court that she was pregnant.
Although her alleged accomplice and partner Lartey Lawson, 33, was released on bail, Judge Abena Agyin Doku requested a medical badessment of Rose Mawusi Fiaku's mental condition.
Before rendering her judgment on Friday, April 26, Rose burst into uncontrollable tears, imploring her mercy when asked if she had anything to say.
Judge Abena Agyin Doku then asked the lawyer of his alleged accomplice, Emmanuel Arthur, if he had anything to say.
He also pleaded for mercy and asked Rose to be warned and dismissed.
However, the judge told Rose that she had lied in court.
"You said you were pregnant, it was not true, you said you had a baby, it was not true," said the judge.
She then sentenced her to five years in prison for forced labor.
Her alleged accomplice, Lartey Lawson, must reappear Monday, April 29.
Nana Akosua Boah, the baby's mother Francis Mawusi Ahiagbenu expressed relief after the verdict.
"I am happy that justice has been done. I was saddened to see her crying, but her prison sentence will be good for her, so she does not repeat it, "she said.
