The kid, kidnapped last Friday in the Takoradi market circle in the western region, was found during a police deluge.

The suspect, Mawusi Rose Fianko, 42, who claims to be a seamstress, had shaved the hair of the one year old boy.

We think she was trying to hide the baby's identity.

She was arrested with her boyfriend and "accomplice", Lawson Lartey, 33, on Tuesday at around 12 pm in their hiding place in Effiakuma, Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality, Western Region.

According to the baby's mother, Nana Akosua Bowaa, her baby had bushy hair at the time of the flight last Friday, and was extremely surprised to see the hair shaved.

During a brief interview with reporters Tuesday at dawn after the reunification of the baby with his family, Akosua Bowaa said that she had learned the lesson and that she would never let any more his child in the hands of strangers.

Real operation

DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, public relations officer of the Western Region Police (PRO), told DAILY GUIDE that the police had information indicating that the suspect had been sighted near Effiakuma.

"The police therefore monitored the scene around 7 pm and noon and we managed to find the suspect," said Adiku DSP.

She revealed that when the police reached the hiding place of the suspects, they found that Mawusi Rose Fianko was absent.

DSP Adiku said the suspect had then met the police at the entrance and had tried to deny the presence of a baby in the room, but they had pushed her aside, had forcibly opened the door and had searched for the baby. The police, she said, found the boy with the suspect's boyfriend.

"The police were able to save the baby and then reunited with his family," said police officer PRO.

She said that before handing it over to the mother, the police brought the baby to the hospital for a medical examination.

No declaration

When asked what the suspect's motive was, the police representative told Mawusi Rose Fianko and her boyfriend that they had not written their statements yet so that proper investigations could begin.

She pointed out, however, that the two men would soon be brought to justice for stealing children.

Jubilation

When the suspects were informed of the arrest of the suspects at the Takoradi market circle, they went to the Takoradi police station to see the woman and her boyfriend.

Context

The suspect managed to steal the one year old baby from his mother around 4:30 pm in front of the Market Circle post office in Takoradi last Friday.

The suspect initially posed as a client and asked the mother to allow him to take care of his two children so that he could better serve the clients.

Fortunately, a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera from some of the area's banks captured the woman, who was cuddling the baby as she walked away from the market.
