Some traders in the central business district of the metropolis of Sekondi-Takoradi have expressed concern about the increased activities of day preachers in the region.
While some have said that their words sometimes bring hope, joy, and restoration, others blast the microphone with gospel music and some scripture to get their daily bread without any solid biblical doctrine.
Madam Ekuba Yankey, an “akyeke” vendor – a local Nzema delicacy, said that some of the men of God preaching in the market place truly inspired traders and therefore encouraged them to do more to win souls for God.
However, she was not satisfied with the preachers who criticized only everything that was seen around.
Mrs. Grace Nyanebah, a fruit vendor, said that just as there was real currency and fake, there were bogus and genuine preachers and advised residents to be vigilant.
“The fakes are just eager to accept offers from sellers and buyers by just playing loud music without teaching anything meaningful,” she added.
For his part, Mr. Issah Seidu, a vegetable vendor, felt that with the increase in activities of preachers in the market, not everything they preached was actually causing change or inspiration in people.
Aunt Ewuresi Andorful, a vendor of fresh fish and wife of one of the preachers, said she believed preachers were doing their best to win souls and change people’s perceptions and mindsets.
“It all depends on people and their choices because some people might be affected by what preachers say others still won’t like preachers,” and urged all preachers to continue doing the good works of God.
