Handcuffs Hammer 1 Mawusi was sentenced after the court found a number of inconsistencies in his reports

A woman who stole a baby in Takoradi was sentenced to five years in prison by the Sekondi Gender Court.

Mawusi Rose Fiaku and her alleged accomplice, Lawson Lartey, who is also her boyfriend, have been charged with stealing children and committing crimes.

They were arrested by the Western Regional SWAT in Effiakuma-Takoradi, in possession of Francis Mawusi Ahiabenu, a year old, stolen from his mother at the Takoradi market circle last month.
At the last session, Lawson Larte received a bail of 10,000 Cedis from Ghana with two bonds, after denying that he had been made aware of the incident.

While Mawusi pleaded guilty, Lawson pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by a judge, Abena Agyin Doku, ordered Mawusi Rose Fiaku on Friday to undergo a psychiatric test.

It was after the suspect told the court that she had never had a baby, contrary to what she had told the court in an earlier proceeding .

Mawusi Rose Fiaku had to undergo a psychiatric test after her mother confessed that her daughter had behaved abnormally even before the baby stole.

Lawson Lartey, Mawusi's boyfriend, who is the second defendant, did not ask the court any questions but was released on bail for 10,000 GHc with two sureties to appear in court on April 26th.

Context

The one-year-old boy was abducted from his mother at the Takoradi market circle.

A CCTV camera used by a group of banks around the area captured the woman who was walking away from the market with the child in her arms.

The incident at 4:30 pm outside the Market Circle post office was then reported to the Market Circle police.

The baby was then found and sent to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital for a medical examination.
