Ghanaian police said Joséphine Mensah, a pregnant woman who was reportedly missing for Takoradi, the Western region confessed that she would not be pregnant.
Police say Joséphine Panyin Mensah, 28, confessed during extensive investigations that she was not pregnant and that no one had kidnapped her.
Ghana Police Department declares suspected pregnant woman at the center of the alleged kidnapping suspect after doctors’ report proved she was not pregnant.
Police in the press release said Josephine Panyin Mensah allegedly conspired to fake an abduction and pregnancy.
“Investigations suggest that the suspect is conspiring with others over his planned disappearance,” ACP Kwesi Ofori said for an inside statement.
Hospital medical records show no pregnancy
Police said inquiries show the young woman’s hospital said she had not obtained a medical record of her pregnancy.
“During the investigation, she mentioned Takoradi European Hospital as a hospital for the evaluation of the prenatal examination den.”
“Medical records from the facility suggest the woman went to the hospital without pregnancy somewhere in October last year,” the statement added.
Increased cases of false kidnappings in the Western region
Ghana police officials say a worrying issue is the growing number of false kidnappings that are being recorded for the western region.
They explain that people create a “self-abduction” to earn money with ransoms.
It’s not yet clear why Josephine Mensah is faking her pregnancy, but police say they will update the public with more details.
