The government said yesterday that two million doses of Sinopharm vaccine from China are expected to arrive in the country as the number of Tanzanians vaccinated reaches 400,000 from the one million doses initially received.

Government spokesman Mr Gerson Msigwa said yesterday that unlike the ‘Johnson & Johnson’ doses which are injected once a year, Tanzanians will have to be inoculated twice a year with the doses of Sinopharm.

“Those who are afraid of injections would be better off going with the available Johnson doses instead of waiting for doses that will be given twice a year,” he said.

According to him, the increase in the number of Tanzanians vaccinated has been attributed to the ongoing vaccination campaigns which began on September 15, 2021, jointly carried out by the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children. , and the Ministry of State. in the office of the president, regional administration and local government (PO-RALG).

“All 6,784 vaccination centers have been instructed to provide Covid-19 vaccines to citizens,” he said.

Regarding the ongoing campaign, Msigwa said that health experts have been dispatched to villages to reach Tanzanians whose vaccination is hampered by the long distance to vaccination centers.

“The WTO has agreed to help Tanzania find markets for its agricultural products, as the country has 1.9 million tonnes and 920,000 tonnes of rice and maize stocks, respectively,” he said. .

In addition to the WB and the WTO, the EU is committed to helping Tanzania reduce the costs of disease diagnosis and access to medicines.
