Protesters wearing red stripes with placards blocked the main road and burned car tires.
Gomashie Edem Wisdom, in charge of communication at the Tarkwa Nsuaem Nuclear Power Plant, warns the government against the failure of repairing the deplorable roads of the Tarkwa municipality.
His warning follows a protest organized by a group of residents of Tarkwa-Nsuaem, known as concerned citizens of Tarkwa, who expressed their dissatisfaction after a two-week ultimatum given to government to repair the roads be ignored.
Protesters wearing red banners and placards, blocked the main road, set car tires in the middle of the road and prevented vehicles from entering and leaving the municipality.
The demonstration, which lasted more than five hours, put an end to commercial activities in the region, causing a traffic jam on the main road of Takoradi.
Adding his voice to the incident, Gomashie engineer Edem Wisdom discussed the possible sabotage of the efforts of the MP and DCE to get the Akufo-Addo government's support for the road construction project in the region.
In a statement, the NPP communicator said, "Hon. George Mireku Duker has leveraged all government channels to improve this route. The ERM has also played its part in solving the problem. As lobbying continued, the leaders of Greater Wbadaland added their voices during presidential meetings and slipped the cake with a protest last year to express their dissatisfaction to the government. "
Tarkwa-Nsuaem had the largest number of votes ever recorded in the Western Region's political history and the second nationwide led by the Hon. George Mireku Duker in 2016. "
He recalled how the Minister of Roads had visited Tarkwa and badured chiefs and residents to begin work on the roads without honoring his promise.
He said that the damage on the road had "tripled the damage done to the inhabitants of Tarkwa; dust all over the deplorable stretch, dust-induced diseases have plagued the lives of people living on this stretch, medical emergencies being delayed resulting in some deaths, pregnant women getting miscarriages among others ".
Below the complete statement
TARKWA ROAD
To whom it May concern.
Ing. Gomashie Edem Wisdom writes:
The state of the Tarkwa roads (especially the Ahwetieso-Tarkwa stretch) was in an anomaly when the nuclear power plant took power and was sworn in in 2017.
It has become the number 1 task for the first time of a deputy, which will later become one of the most dynamic deputies of the 7th legislature.
L & # 39; Hon. George Mireku Duker has leveraged all government channels to improve this route. The ERM has also played its part in solving the problem.
As lobbying continued, the leaders of Greater Wbadaland added their voices during presidential meetings and slipped the cake with a protest last year expressing their dissatisfaction with the government.
L & # 39; Hon. Duker was under heavy pressure. The Minister of Roads of Tarkwa has come. He came and badured the chiefs and residents of Tarkwa of their plea and made a good promise.
Time pbaded quickly and the road tripled causing damage to the inhabitants of Tarkwa; dust all over the deplorable stretch, dust-induced diseases have plagued the lives of people living on this stretch, with medical emergencies being delayed leading to some deaths, pregnant women getting miscarriages, among others.
At this point, the people have come to believe that the local political leaders (MP, MCE) have let them down and that even if the case is not well hammered by pretenders of fad diets and some groups do not blame a lot because the results matter.
The road to Tarkwa is so sad.
Economically
It is a city with 3 mining companies, AngloGold Ashanti, Iduapriem, Goldfields Tarkwa Mine and Ghana Manganese Company.
These companies contribute significantly to corporate taxes, royalties, dividends and foreign direct investment in our country that any city in Ghana can currently offer in terms of natural resource exploitation.
Tarkwa's domestic tax returns alone are very much in the coffers of our country.
Politically
The current NAP government has garnered the largest number of votes in the political history of the Western Region and the second nationwide led by the Honorable Tarkwa-Nsuaem. George Mireku Duker in 2016.
Is it the way to reward them?
I'm not a tribalist here, but if Kumasi Town Roads could receive 50 million more, what's stopping Tarkwa from doing the same thing, less or more?
Today, a group of Tarkwa youth and seniors have descended on the streets and once again expressed their dissatisfaction.
I support all good courses that will bring peace and prosperity to those who forget the colors of the party. It's sad
There is a greater smell of political sabotage in this case.
This sabotage must end.
The people appointed and serving on the Regional Coordinating Council to make sure that this is done and enjoying the fruits of sabotage, I say Ayekoo to all.
The people close to the President of the Republic, who denies Tarkwa roads out of reach, I tell you, Ayekoo.
To some members of the NPP who may not feel comfortable with this message, I humbly remind you that my membership card is still intact.
Let's do our best and repair the Tarkwa roads now.
We may not have the second chance to explain to people. It's now
