Taylor Swift’s emotional song “Ranon” will be one of the songs from the 1930s that will be included on her upcoming album “Red” (Taylor’s Version).
The song is about a four-year-old boy’s fatal battle with cancer. Swift got permission from Ronan Thompson’s mother, Maya Thompson, to include the emotional song on her remastered album.
Maya revealed that Swift emailed her and asked her permission to include the single. Taylor originally released the song in 2012 and performed the song for the “Stand Up to Cancer” telethon.
“She is and always will be one of the things I hold most dear, and her beautiful words will be kept private,” said Maya.
In part of the email, Swift wrote, “I recently finished re-recording my 4th album, Red. It really exceeded my expectations in many ways, and one of them was that I thought it would be appropriate to add “Ronan” to this album. Red was an album of heartbreak and healing, of rage and crudity, of tragedy and trauma, and the loss of an imagined future alongside someone. I wrote ‘Ronan’ while doing Red and found out about your story as you told it so honestly and devastatingly. I sincerely hope that you will agree with me for this song to be included in this album. As the co-author and rightful owner of this entire story, your opinion and approval of this idea really matters to me, and I will honor your wishes here.
“Tears came to my eyes,” Maya recalls. “It took me an hour to absorb the words in front of me. I cried as I shared the news.”
In the blog post, Maya then addressed her son, “Taylor anchored you in this world so that you would never be lost, and now she has made sure that you will be forever safe in a new permanent home.” . She once again gives voice to the often voiceless and grieving parents of the world as well as to childhood cancer which deserves much more funding than it receives.
A month ago, Swift announced that her 2012 album “Red” would be her next re-recorded album. Swift took to her Twitter and announced that the re-recorded version of the album is slated for release on November 19 and will include all 30 songs that were originally slated to appear on her fourth studio album.
“I have always said that the world is a different place for the brokenhearted. It moves on a different axis, at a different speed. Time moves forward and backward fleetingly. The broken hearted can go through thousands of microemotions a day trying to figure out how to overcome them without picking up the phone to hear that familiar old voice. In the Land of Sorrow, moments of strength, independence and staunch rebellion are intertwined with grief, crippling vulnerability and despair. Imagining your future can always take you away from the past. And all that to say that the next album that I will release is my version of Red, ”she wrote in a statement.
