Child Rights International (CRI) Ghana has launched an online petition for signatories to urge the state to redouble its efforts to help the three abducted girls in Takoradi, in the western region.

The victims' families had the shock of their lives on Wednesday (April 24th) when the police announced that the girls had not been found contrary to the information provided by the media.

COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, General Director of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service, had raised hope earlier in the month by announcing that the police knew where the girls were.

But after the official denial of the police, the families of the missing girls intensified their pressure for the state agency to tell them where they were.

The girls are Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, 15, Ruth Love Quayson, 18, and Priscilla Blessing Bentum, 21.

Until now, one of the suspects, Samuel Wills, a Nigerian, has been arrested and sued.

"It has been almost nine months since three girls disappeared in Takoradi," reads IRC Ghana's online petition.

"The family's efforts to obtain police information about their status have proved futile.

"We [are] soliciting your signature in order to increase support to the state so that he is interested in the case. "

After two hours, the petition had more than 50 signatories and was still counting.

Parliament and the president's office were mentioned in the petition.
