‘Teachers can fire students’ who dress provocatively – Ho Technical University

Ho Technical University has empowered its professors to deny access to students dressed indecently and provocatively.

University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Ben Honyenuga at his 28th enrollment ceremony on Thursday said the University seeks to maintain its reputation for decency and respect for the benefit of students and will continue to ‘prohibit’ all acts of flagrant indiscipline.

He said the university required students to dress appropriately at all times, and also did not allow political branding materials at conferences and official functions.

“Fighting or any form of physical assault, theft, noise, drug and alcohol consumption is prohibited at the University.

“So it will be in your best interest to distance yourself from all forms of destructive behavior such as sexual assault, occultism, rape, rebels, homosexuality, provocative clothing and a host of other social vices that have gained notoriety among today’s students.

“You should always dress decently. Your speakers have been empowered to kick you out of the class of people who appear in provocative clothing. We do not tolerate the wearing of political paraphernalia for lectures and other official University functions, ”said the VC.

Professor Honyenuga said the University’s Guidance and Counseling Unit has been endowed with resources to help people with addictions of all forms and emotional instability.

The Technical University saw a 43.63% increase in student enrollments for the 2020/2021 academic year, which the VC said was the result of the free SHS program and the University’s outreach efforts. .

He said the University was implementing new standards and behavioral changes to provide a safe environment during the coronavirus pandemic.

Prof Honyenuga said the school’s curricula offer “clear and logical career paths” for academic and professional progress, and urged new students to make the necessary efforts.

“You entered the University when it was ranked among the top ten universities in Ghana in the latest webometrics rankings. We are on track to deliver on our mandate to you and our stakeholders.

“We therefore hope that you will use this wonderful opportunity wisely to acquire the skills and knowledge essential to take on the responsibility of effectively supporting and contributing to the growth and development of the nation after completing your degree program at the ‘University,’ said the VC.
