The Association of Technical University Teachers of Ghana (TUTAG) has threatened to call a strike at the end of the 36th Congress of Delegates in Sunyani, Bono, at the end of August if the government does not does not transfer to the salary structure of the Public University.
At a press conference in Sunyani, the badociation said that three years after the conversion of polytechnics into universities, all efforts to solve the problem had failed, so no further delay n & # 39; Is to wait.
Dr. Solomon Keelson, president of the badociation, said: "TUTAG has been cooperating and patient for far too long."
After Law 922 of 2016 on Technical Universities, which converted eight polytechnic schools into technical universities, lecturers from technical universities became part of public universities and could not understand why this had not been done.
"After meeting all the stated conditions and timelines for migrating TUTAG members into the pay structure of public universities, we have not yet migrated in three years. The worst is the persistent refusal of the authorities to give us a specific date for the completion of the migration, "he said.
According to him, the badociation had written several letters to competent bodies, such as the Ministry of Education, the National Council of Higher Education (NCTE) and the Committee on Fair Wages and Wages ( FWSC) to indicate a specific date for the migration, but all had fallen in the ear of a deaf person.
He added that the audit of more than 2,000 lecturers had been conducted and that those who were not qualified to teach in technical universities had three years to upgrade, so those who were qualified to migrate to the new structure.
Keelson also urged the government to urgently convert the two remaining polytechnic institutes – Wa and Bolgatanga – into technical universities after the amendment of Law 922 of 2016 to Law 974 of 2018 to convert them into technical universities.
