Thousands of people gathered in Ayitikope in the South Akatsi Municipality of the Volta region on Saturday, August 21, 2021 to bid farewell to Apostle Augustine Gbedema and his wife, Pastor Confort Gbedemah, allegedly murdered in cold blood last month in their home. .
Mourners walked past the bodies to show their final respect to the slain husband and wife, who were the co-founders of Harmony with Jesus Ministry International Church in Ayitikope.
The coffins were covered with rich and precious traditional fabrics to signify the love, care and importance of the deceased husband and wife to both families.
The funeral was held in the grounds of Ayitikope Junior High School (JHS) at exactly 9:00 a.m. and lasted approximately 4 hours.
Madame Irene Gbedemah, the only daughter of the couples who died reading her tribute, said her late parent’s hard work really pushed her to where she is now.
“I spoke with my parents a day before their sudden disappearance and what they told me was to be truthful, faithful and above all to keep the commandment of God because it is the only way to reach paradise after death, ”she said.
Mr. George Gbedemah, a member of the deceased Pastor’s family read the biography of the Apostles Augustine Gbedema.
He said the pastor was born in February 1951 and was the sixth and last born among five other brothers and a sister.
He added that their parents were the late Mr. Lumor Gbedema and the late Ms. Afiaɖeyeto Gadasu, both of Ayitikope.
Mr. George Gbedemah noted that the late Mr. Gbedema, a former member of the Ghana Cocoa Board was a hardworking man who married Ms. Comfort Atsah who was also a retired teacher in 1991.
Mr. Paul Mawulolo Atsa, journalist working for the Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation (GBC) in Accra and brother of the slain Mrs. Comfort Gbedemah, read the tribute on behalf of the family of the pastor’s late wife.
According to him, his sister was a loving, caring and God-fearing person who always has faith in God.
The pastor officiating for the funeral service, Apostle RDK Dovor, founder and leader of Apostolic Vision International in Akatsi in his sermon urged Christians to keep faith in God because there is life after death.
“Be good servants of Christ, for there is life after death,” he said.
Deacon Peter Deffor of Harmony with Jesus Ministry International who read the couple’s tribute on behalf of church members noted that the church was founded in 2014 by the late couples.
He added that their hard work and dedication kept the church moving until their sudden demise.
Were present at the funeral, Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, deputy of Akatsi South; Superintendent Joseph Atsu Dzineku, Commander of the South Akatsi Police; Pastor Simon Agbogbli, president of the Akatsi-Aflao Local Council of Churches; Pastor AY Ahiatroga of Christ Evangelistic Ministry International; Apostle Ernest Hamenu of the Chemin du Salut church; Reverend Alex Awaga of the New Covenant Apostolic Church, heads and heads of institutions and members of the community.
Apostle Augustine Gbedemah died at 70 and his wife at 64.
The couples were found dead in their home on Saturday, July 24, 2021.
The case has since been reported to Akatsi South Municipal Police Command for investigation.
