BEIJING, July 5 (Reuters) – The Asia Internet Coalition, an industry body backed by Google (GOOGL.O) and Facebook (FB.O), has warned the Hong Kong Privacy Commissioner that the changes proposed to the territory’s privacy laws could force its members to stop investing there.
“The introduction of sanctions targeting individuals is not aligned with global norms and trends,” AIC chief executive Jeff Paine said in a letter viewed by Reuters. “The only way to avoid these sanctions for technology companies would be to refrain from investing and offering their services in Hong Kong.”
