President Akufo-Addo chose Techiman as the capital of the newly created Bono East region.

On Wednesday morning, the president issued the constitutional instrument to give legal support to the creation of the region.

At a ceremony held on Wednesday at Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo pointed out that Bono East, an ethnically diverse enclave, accounts for about two-thirds of all land in the Bronghafo region.

With agriculture as the predominant economic activity and large deposits of natural resources, the president lamented that the Bono East area is not as developed as it should be.

That is why, after receiving a petition from 14 traditional zone chiefs from the municipalities and districts of the proposed Bono-Est region for the creation of the region, he informed the Council of State.

President Akufo-Addo badured that "this government, which facilitated the creation of this region, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, will help ensure the good start and development of Bono East."

The capital of the Techiman Municipal Assembly is among the 10 most important bademblies in the country with high levels of internally generated funds.

According to governance experts, Techniman already has the necessary infrastructure to accelerate the development of the Bono East enclave.

Following this announcement, the youth of Nkoranza were disappointed with the choice of Techiman for the capital of the Bono East region.

According to them, Nkoranza is central and accessible to other districts than Techiman, which is on the outskirts of the new region.

Kofi Ohene-Sakyi, Bono East's creative liaison and youth leader in Nkoranza, says that, even if they are not happy, they will cooperate with the authorities for the ultimate development of the region.
