Two customs officers are questioned about the missing containers
Ten 20-foot containers escorted by national security from one terminal to another in the Tema port enclave have disappeared.
Confiscated containers filled with canned tomatoes were transferred from the Tema container terminal to Atlas, a distance of about 9.9 kilometers.
Containers clbadified as cargo ships with a longer duration of stay were transferred to Atlas for "review and necessary action".
It is interesting to note that two customs officers in the prevention service who were tracking the containers had filed a report on May 30, 2019 indicating that the containers had been delivered.
It was later discovered that the ten containers were not traveling to Atlas, their intended destination.
Meanwhile, the Tema Command of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority investigates the circumstances in which the 20-foot containers disappeared from the port during a transfer to another terminal.
The two customs officers are being questioned by the Tema Marine Police about the incident, reports Josephine Frimpong of 3news.com.
Further verification by Josephine revealed that the containers may have been moved to Kumasi in the Ashanti region.
According to 3news.com, Ghana's tax administration officials have reportedly moved to Kumasi to identify the goods and possibly recover them.
Dr Godfred Oko Appiah, deputy commissioner of the Customs Division of the GRA, Tema command, described the incident as "unfortunate", insisting that punitive measures would be applied to the letter.
