MEMPHIS, Tennessee (AP) – A man from Tennessee died this week after being infected with a flesh-eating bacteria during a trip to the beach.
According to reports, the man would have fallen ill shortly after returning from vacation to Destin Beach, Florida, where he was visiting his family for July 4th.
Cheryl Wiygul, the man's daughter, says the family discovered that a large wound had developed in her father's back after returning home, as well as red bumps on her arms and legs. The man died on July 7, just 48 hours after his last swim in Florida.
Wiygul added that even if his father had no cuts or open wounds, his immune system was compromised by cancer treatments and he risked putting him at greater risk.
