MEMPHIS, Tennessee (WVLT / WGME) – A man from Tennessee died of a flesh-eating bacteria over the weekend after a vacation in Destin, Florida.
The man's family said that they knew that some bacteria could be infected with open wounds and cuts, but did not know that his compromised immune system could put him at greater risk, as reported. WGME.
Nearly 12 hours after spending his vacation at Destin Beach, the man began to feel sick. The man's daughter, Cheryl Wiguyl, once said that the family returned to Memphis, a large sore developed on her back, accompanied by red bumps on her arms and legs.
"We would never have left my father in the water if we had known that it should not have been there if it had not been so easy. To catch something, "said Wiygul.
The man was receiving cancer treatment, which exposed him to an increased risk of infection.
The family wants people with weakened immune systems to experience the risk of being in the water.
"I do not want to keep people off the beach. I love the beach, my father loved the beach. It was his favorite place, but it's not worth your life, "Wiygul said. "So, maybe you have to reprogram if you have a big break or just an operation, do not go to the beach."
