The former vice-chancellor of the STE, Professor Mawutor Avoke
Tensions are currently strong on the campus of the University of Winneba Education following a dismissed press conference of the Vice Chancellor of the University, which Professor Mawutor Avoke intends to organize on campus.
But the police prevented Professor Avoke and his team from continuing the press conference.
"… We are moving, we can not continue with a full press conference because of the current requirements. We will be going to give our press conference elsewhere, "he told the media on Tuesday.
Professor Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Director of UEW Language Colleges, who was recently reinstated after his dismissal, accompanied the Avoke team on campus.
He told the press that "the police are asking us to move; not that we are not going to have the press conference. Just that they do not want us to have it on campus. So we want to beg you to go out with us. We will have another place to hold the press conference. We are not here to argue with anyone. We only want Ghanaians to know what the truth is, "added Avea Nsoh.
However, Calvis Tetteh, Central Regional Correspondent of Citi News, said that although Avoke and his team took into account the police's advice, they then returned to campus.
He added that the Avoke team insisted that the press conference be held on the UEW campus.
Earlier on Tuesday, Kingsley Amoakwah, a senior STE official, sued the minister and his vice-chancellor, Professor Anthony Afful-Broni.
He sought a restraining order preventing Professor Afful-Broni from standing as Vice Chancellor of the University or from any office.
