For years, the population of northeastern Nigeria has been suffering from the terror of Boko Haram. Now another village has been attacked by jihadists. Dozens of people are dead.
65 people were killed in an attack by the Islamic group Boko Haram against villagers in northeastern Nigeria. Ten people were injured Saturday in the attack in a village near the provincial capital of Maiduguri, said Sunday the head of the province Mohammed Bulama. Many victims were found only on Sunday.
More than 20 people were immediately killed in the attack. They were returning from a funeral when the jihadists attacked them. Another 42 villagers died in an attempt to drive out the attackers. A local militia leader for the protection of Boko Haram basically confirmed the numbers.
For years, Boko Haram has been fighting fiercely for the establishment of an Islamic theocracy in northeastern Nigeria, with a Muslim majority. More than 27,000 people have already been killed and 1.8 million have fled during mbad attacks and military operations against extremists. In the meantime, the conflict has also spread to the neighboring countries of Nigeria, namely Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
