LONDON (Reuters) – UK retailer Tesco has no plans to leave Central Europe, its chairman John Allan said on Thursday.
At the annual meeting of shareholders of Tesco, an investor asked if the group would still hold activities in Central Europe by December 2020.
"It's extremely likely," said Allan.
"I've never been told never to say because things could change, but for now, the board has not planned to go out of Central Europe nor discuss this, has he said who was webcast.
Allan said that although Tesco has had problems in Poland, where it has closed stores, in three other countries – Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia – it is market leader or so and continues to invest.
