Tesco and IP Vision launched the UK’s first Freeview + HD PVR hybrid box in time to allow football fans who can’t make it to South Africa for the World Cup to experience the next best thing to be there.
HDTV is the closest experience to watching something for real, but you need the right equipment to do that as well. The latest player is Tesco’s Technika SmartBox (http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.208-9147.aspx), the UK’s first Freeview + high definition hybrid box, which is now available in stores and online, with 320 GB of memory.
High Definition is the television’s first chance to truly allow the viewer to feel “that” up close to the action. With the UK’s first Freeview + HD PVR, users can watch and record high definition programs to relive the action. It is the only PVR currently on sale in the UK that allows the owner to record HD Freeview (http://direct.tesco.com/q/N.1999558/Nr.99.aspx) channels in HD. Now the winning 2010 World Cup goal can be recorded and watched over and over again in HD, which is especially important if it is an English goal.

The Technika SmartBox also allows users to access over 2,000 hours of on-demand programming through IP Vision’s FetchTV platform. Connecting the box to any broadband provider allows access to the FetchTV platform. Once registered with FetchTV, content is streamed via broadband directly to the TV screen. Services, including the BBC iPlayer, are accessible through an easy-to-navigate on-screen menu.

Users can also choose to subscribe to Sky Player to access paid Sky TV content including Sky Movies, Sky Sports and over 40 additional channels including Sky 1, Living and Bravo. Sky channels broadcast live can be accessed by subscribing for a minimum of 30 days. Sky Player also offers a selection of paid content that does not require a minimum subscription period. This is the first time that paid Sky content has been available via a Freeview + HD decoder.
FetchTV also offers thousands of hours of entertainment including movies like Disney’s latest blockbuster Alice, TV shows, music, and kids TV shows. The majority of this content is also available on a pay-per-view basis, eliminating the need for monthly contracts and minimum commitments. Users simply pay for what they want to watch.
