Supermarket giant Tesco issued a product recall notice for a selection of Durex condoms after the failure of a "burst test".

By placing posters in the shop windows of their stores, the store urged customers to check their Durex Real Feel and Durex Free Latex Free contraception.

Customers are requested to check the lot number at the bottom of the package and on the aluminum condom packaging.

Buyers who have one of the recalled lots can return them to the store where they purchased them for a full refund.

The articles concerned are: pack of 12 Durex Real Feel, lot code 1000444370, expiry date February 2021; and Durex Latex Free 18 pack, lot code 1000430479, expiry date Jan 2021.

A statement on the Durex website said: "Our condoms are intended to provide a method of contraception and to prevent the transmission of badually transmitted infections through a latex-free barrier that provides an advantage to latex-sensitive consumers.

"Only for lots of condoms concerned with this problem, there could be an increase in the number of condoms that burst when applied or used."

The company advised its clients to seek the advice of a doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible and no later than 72 hours should a condom break.

However, the company said that there was no immediate security problem.
