Tesla launches a new Amazon store to sell its merchandise outside its own store, which has not been Tesla's most valued commercial effort in the community.
The new Amazon store comes with some new Tesla equipment parts, including iPhone cases, but it also has interesting implications for other Tesla products.
Update: Tesla quickly closed the store after the publication of this article. February 6: Tesla relaunched his Amazon store.
Over the years, Tesla has used its "Tesla Shop" website to sell merchandise and accessories.
He has mixed reviews of owners, but now the builder is testing something different: going through Amazon.
The company has built a brand new Amazon store to sell its goods.
Electrek has learned that it is launching today with the first items available on the new storefront powered by the Internet retail giant:
For the moment, we are only talking about clothes and accessories, including some new exclusive items for the store, like new iPhone cases:
Tesla iPhone X ($ 35) and folio ($ 45)
Tesla iPhone 8 ($ 35) and folio ($ 45)
Tesla also sells Model S die-cast vehicles, new hoodies and some other accessories (stealth matte black stealth – like MKBHD) in the new store.
All of these items are sold through Amazon Prime, the online retailer taking care of filling them out.
Tesla could possibly move more items into the store and let Amazon take over the production of other products, arguably more important.
Some Tesla's Shop products require installation at Tesla Service Centers. Of course, these items would not be ideal for the Amazon store, but Tesla also offers many other vehicle accessories.
Amazon has become a hub for electric vehicle charging stations. The online retailer offers hundreds of charging stations for sale, many of which are available via Prime.
They have even partnered with Audi to not only sell domestic charging stations, but also match buyers with electricians to complete the installation.
Tesla has also worked with Amazon to deploy more energy storage in distribution centers.
Update: After we re-sealed the new store, several other media talked about it and Tesla closed it. The company did not want to say why she had closed it.
According to sources, there would have been some confusion at the management level as to how the project was approved.
On February 6, Tesla relaunched the Amazon store, with products available again.
Electrek's Take
I think it's an interesting effort. It's fun right now for Merch, but I think it has bigger implications for the future of Tesla's business.
Amazon is becoming so important that it is rather disturbing from a monopoly point of view, but it must be admitted that the experience of online retail has been experienced.
It is therefore logical that Tesla supports them to reduce the time of purchase of certain accessories.
At the moment, this may not seem so important, but Amazon has taken initiatives in the automotive sector. They are now selling tires, windshield wipers and many other accessories.
With Amazon Garage, customers can now list their cars on the website and know exactly which products will work with their vehicles.
It's probably smart that Tesla is starting to work on an Amazon presence right now.
