The Canadian High Commission in Ghana thanked the Ghana Police Service and the Government of Ghana for the quick rescue of two of its citizens on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, following their abduction at the Kumasi Royal Golf Club on June 4, 2019.

"Thanks to the Ghana Police Service and the Government of Ghana for all their efforts to ensure the safe and secure release of Canadians. We also appreciate the messages of support and concern from many Ghanaians and Canadians, "said the High Commission on its official Facebook page.

The two women are Lauren Patricia Catherine Tilley, 19; and Bailey Jordan Chitty, 20 years old. Eight suspects were arrested as part of the kidnapping.

The suspects are made up of five Ghanaians and three Nigerians, Media Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah told reporters on Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

Nkrumah also denied allegations that the government of Ghana has received help from the Canadian government to rescue the volunteers.

He said: "Foreigners did not support the rescue of girls."

"The operation involved the Ghana Police Service CID, the National Investigation Bureau, the National Security Council's Arms and Special Tactics Unit, and defense intelligence. No foreign badets were involved in the operation, "he said.
