The 10 main characters of the most questionable life choices made in the MCU

While many MCU fans like to think MCU heroes are invincible, the writers prove they are capable of making mistakes like everyone else.

Most of the MCU’s superheroes are smart people, with some of them even established as geniuses (like Tony Stark or Bruce Banner). However, being a genius or just smart doesn’t mean people don’t make mistakes. In fact, because they have a lot of ideas, sometimes they can end up doing things that many others wouldn’t have thought of in the first place – and that’s not necessarily for the best.

The heroes, their mistakes, and the conflicts that come with them are what keep the MCU going. Whether in love or on the battlefield, superheroes have repeatedly made some pretty questionable life choices.

ten Creation of Ultron

Unlike the comics (where Hank Pym was responsible), Tony Stark created Ultron in the MCU. His intentions were good since Tony just wanted to protect everyone and make sure the Avengers were no longer needed.

But Ultron’s creation backfired and resulted in the deaths of many people. It also marked the beginning of the end of the Avengers as Tony and Steve Rogers were arguing over Ultron and not trusting each other as much as before.

9 Kiss Sharon Carter

Considering how obsessed Steve was with Peggy and how much he was in love with her, it came out of nowhere when he kissed with Sharon. It is true that Sharon was smart and courageous but they hardly knew each other at this point.

All in all, it was like something Steve Rogers wouldn’t do, so it’s no wonder this storyline got nowhere. Steve got back to Peggy at the end, and as for Sharon, she undoubtedly did well for herself.

8 Do not discuss agreements together

Civil War Tony Stark and Steve Rogers

Ultron may have sparked the rift between Captain America and Iron Man, but it was the agreements that ended it. Steve and Tony both made the wrong decision in this matter.

Tony should have taken the time to explain the agreements to the team earlier, to discuss it with them. And Steve should have been more open to Tony’s explanation and not shoot him down right away.

7 Lying to Tony about Maria and Howard

Iron Man in Captain America Civil War

It is true that Tony overreacted when he tried to kill Bucky. He knew full well that Bucky was not responsible for his actions when he killed his parents. Tony wasn’t entirely to blame, however.

Her reaction might have been very different if Steve hadn’t lied to her about what happened to Maria and Howard. If Steve had told Tony the truth under more peaceful circumstances, the Avengers might not have broken up and they might have defeated Thanos on the first try.

6 Do not aim for the head

Thor Thanos Avengers Infinity War

Of all the superheroes who have appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, Thor came closest to stopping Thanos. Still, he made the mistake of not taking the lead of Thanos. Thanos himself told Thor seconds before snapping his fingers. After so many battles against powerful opponents, Thor should have known that killing them as fast as possible was the best way to win. And beheading Thanos would have done the trick.

5 Creation of the hexagonal anomaly

To be fair to Wanda, it wasn’t a conscious decision on her end to create the Hex anomaly and trap the citizens of Westview inside. Once Wanda realized what was going on and that she was hurting people, many fans thought she would have stopped him.

However, it seemed at this point that Wanda had grown so attached to her new life that she couldn’t give up on her dream and would let it continue. While everyone understood that she was in mourning, they also admitted that it was unfair to keep the other residents trapped when they had their own lives and loved ones missed.

4 Trust Mysterio

Mysterio entered Peter’s life at an inconvenient time. Peter was still vulnerable because of Tony Stark’s death and needed a new male figure in his life. Mysterio pretended to be the hero Peter needed and he cheated on him so much that Peter gave him the piece of tech Tony had left him.

As a result, Mysterio only made Peter’s life more difficult. Not only did he try to kill him and his friends, but he also unveiled Spider-Man to the world. Peter should never have trusted him so much, not without getting to know him better at first.

3 Protect one person from countless others

Wanda killing Vision in Avengers Infinity War

A big reason the Avengers lost to Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War It was because Captain America was determined to protect Vision at all costs. Even if that meant putting countless other people who fought against Thanos’ army at risk.

If Captain weren’t so determined to save Vision, they could’ve destroyed the Mind Stone long before Thanos got his hands on it – and the snap wouldn’t have happened. It’s true that it would mean killing one of their friends but Vision himself was aware of the possibility and was ready to accept it.

2 Don’t contact Captain Marvel sooner

Carol Danvers gave Nick Fury a way to contact her before leaving Earth to help the Skrulls. She said it was only for emergencies, but Fury should have contacted her much sooner. For example, when it became clear that Thanos was on his way to Earth. It’s doubtful Captain Marvel would have saved the day, but it sure wouldn’t hurt things. Instead, Fury waited for the snap to happen before finally giving in and calling Carol to Earth.

1 Playing with an alien cat

Nick Fury and Goose in Captain Marvel

Speaking of Captain Marvel, his solo movie Captain marvel finally explained one of the MCU’s biggest mysteries – how Nick Fury lost his left eye. And it was a bad decision on Fury’s side.

Nick knew that Goose the Cat was actually a very dangerous alien species named Flerkel, who could easily kill people. Still, he provoked Goose until the alien cat scratched his eyes. Just because Goose was adorable and his appearance fooled people, Fury shouldn’t have forgotten that he was a deadly alien.
