BETHEL, Alaska – An Alaskan company is investing in development programs for youth and others to deliver on its promise to hire local workers for a gold mine project.
In Alaska, Energy Desk announced Friday that Donlin Gold was funding Yuut Elitnaurviat, a Bethel-based development organization for the workforce.
Two Aboriginal companies hold the mineral rights and lands of the future gold mine 451 km northwest of Anchorage. The project is expected to last up to 27 years.
Donlin spends $ 1 million a year on programs like Yuut Elitnaurviat and Excel Alaska, who are training rural Alaskans looking for jobs near their homes.
Excel Alaska brings students into grade seven and organizes tailor-made sessions to tailor the skills that everyone needs to get a job in their village by providing training through high school.
