Daniel Asiedu, the main suspect accused of murdering former member of parliament Abuakwa North, JB Danquah told a district court in Accra that his alleged accomplice, Vincent Bosso, was innocent of the charges against him.

According to Daniel Asiedu, the second defendant was not present and was not aware of the events that led to the murder of the late MP.

In a confession opened in court on Wednesday, Daniel Asiedu admitted that he had gone to the home of the deceased MP to kill him and not to commit robbery as part of the charges against him.

The main suspect further revealed that he had been hired by some people from the NPP to commit the crime.

He told the court that those people who had hired him had helped him into the home of the deceased MP, baduring him that he would be arrested and later released.

His testimony before the court contradicts the facts presented by the prosecution, according to which two accused conspired to commit robbery, after which the second defendant, Vincent Bosso, withdrew on a disagreement over which to start.

After the confession, the district court hired both defendants in the High Court, where a full trial will take place.

Asiedu is on trial for his alleged badbadination of Abuakwa North MP, JB Danquah, in 2016.

The suspect voluntarily confessed in court that members of the NPP had asked him to badbadinate the MP and threatened to name the perpetrators of the murder.

Context

Daniel Asiedu and Vincent Bosso have been charged with murder and conspiracy for the murder of the late MP.

Asiedu had previously stated that he went to the MP's home to steal, but ended up killing him in self-defense.

He subsequently withdrew these accusations and stated that he had gone there with the intention of killing the lawmaker.

The late J.B Danquah-Adu was stabbed to death on February 9, 2016 at his Shiashie residence in Accra.

Daniel Asiedu, who was the main suspect, was arrested two days after the incident.

Another person was also arrested later as part of the murder.

The badbadination of the former MP shocked many people and led to discussions about the safety of lawmakers.

Challenges of the autopsy

The hustle and bustle on the autopsy report was just another turning point in the judicial process meant to bring the alleged perpetrators to justice.

Asiedu and Bosso were tried by the High Court after more than a year of imprisonment proceedings in the District Court.

But on May 29, 2017, they were released by the High Court after the Attorney General filed a record of no action to stop the prosecution.

They were then arrested again and again brought to justice.
