Inkas has built armored versions of most full-size luxury SUVs, including titanic trucks like the Lincoln Navigator and the Infiniti QX80. Today, the Canadian company is adding another model to its resume, claiming to be the first to build an armored BMW X7. It is the ideal vehicle for a politician, deposed bully, mafia boss or drug lord who wants to travel in style, luxury and safety.
The luxury SUV’s armor can withstand 7.62 millimeter hits or Winchester .308 ammunition, and has even been designed to ensure bullets don’t enter door seals, according to Inkas. The ground can also withstand the explosion of two hand grenades that detonated simultaneously, the company said.
This level of shielding is standard, but customers can also add sirens, public address system, air filtration devices, night vision, smoke barrier system, fire extinguisher system in the engine compartment and emergency lights.
Inkas does not change the powertrain, but does offer the armor upgrade for three versions of the X7. This includes the base xDrive40i, which is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 producing 335 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque, with standard all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The company’s press release also mentioned a 523 hp or 612 hp V-8 option. These figures correspond to the releases of the M50i and Alpina XB7 versions. Both use a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8. BMW also offers a less powerful X7 xDrive50i with the same engine, but it apparently doesn’t get the Inkas treatment.
BMW also sells its own armored cars. In 2019, the automaker unveiled the X5 Protection VR6, which was designed to survive an explosion of over 30 pounds of TNT. However, BMW failed to launch its own armored version of the X7. If so, the business already has competition.
