The arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, should Great Britain intervene or…?

The power dynamic of language in diplomatic and coercive arenas has remained the syrup for selling and propagating interests. Obviously, the clever interplay of language can make all the difference in whether the road to war or the highway to peace is chosen! Even in families and across all religions and political beliefs, the deployment of language, action verbs, and adjectives has either caused massive expense to relationships or raised ordinary and ordinary people to new heights of camaraderie!

In essence, therefore, language and meaning are at the epicenter of what those of us who are trained in political science generally call “the games nations play.”

Nigerian Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami (SAN) announced at a press conference that the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu had been “brought back” (not arrested) by the government Nigerian on Sunday, June 27, 2021. Malami, an influential insider in the presidency of retired General Muhammadu Buhari as well as the Abuja Federal Court chaired by Judge Binta Murtala Nyako, had repeatedly stated that Kanu had violated the terms of the bail he was granted in 2017. Malami said Kanu was “intercepted by collaborative efforts of the Nigerian intelligence and security services.” Malami did not indicate where Kanu was “intercepted” and which countries and services / agencies were involved in “the collaborative efforts”.

Typically, the interception occurs in sports such as soccer, football, and basketball. This is how the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu was skillfully and carefully qualified as an interception!

On the other side of the question and the definition of events, I received a statement from the World Igbo Congress (WIC), headquartered in the United States, on what he described as “the kidnapping. and the arraignment of Nnamdi Kanu in Nigeria and this court hearing is scheduled for July 26, 2021. We have also been confirmed that Nnamdi Kanu, a British citizen, has been abducted in a country other than the UK to which he traveled on a British passport. Therefore, it raises the specter of illegal kidnappings and international gangsterism that violate the extradition process. ”

I think that on July 26 and 27, 2021, among the central questions that will be asked in the courtroom presided over by Judge Nyako will be whether the Nigerian government simply “intercepted” Nnamdi Kanu or “kidnapped” Nnamdi Kanu? What will be the interests of the Court regarding the bail conditions previously granted to Nnamdi Kanu? Well, will the court determine whether the crux of the matter is whether Nnamdi Kanu “skipped the bail” or ran away for his personal and family safety?

I recall that in May 2017 on USAfricaonline.com, I mentioned “the non-dramatic ease with which they sorted and settled – in 30 hours – the harsh reality of high jump in the mountains, rigorous and extremely difficult to respect. April 25, 2017, as the bail conditions required for the temporary release of the head of the IPOB, by the Federal High Court, Judge Nyako, wife of a former senior army officer and governor, a showed the credibility and weight of IPOB. She asked Kanu to provide three sureties; one of whom must be a sitting Senator in Nigeria, a Jewish religious leader and a highly respected person, who owns land anywhere in Nigeria’s capital Abuja. The bond was set at 100 million naira for each bond. Kanu has also been ordered not to give media / press interviews, pending the outcome of his trial and is not expected to be seen in a meeting / gathering of more than 10 people.

Meanwhile, the World Igbo Congress has already called on “the British government to stand up and defend the rights of its citizens. The UK government must investigate the collusion of any other country or party in this saga. The US government, the UN and the international community to take note of the continuing human rights violations in Nigeria, including this Nnamdi Kanu kidnapping case.

Finally, let me ask two simple questions: If Nnamdi Kanu proclaims himself a British citizen, what will Britain say or do in this complex situation? Should Britain intervene or will it give Nnamdi Kanu the middle finger?
