Tensions are currently building up in the Asawase district of Ashanti region within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a result of a resolution of the regional party 's regional executive committee. impose the Director General of the Municipality (MCE), the Hon. Alidu Seidu as a parliamentary candidate.

According to the resolution notice signed by Regional Secretary Sam Pyne and observed by MyNewsGh.com, the decision was made on Monday, July 29, 2019 at the Regional Executive Committee meeting.

He revealed that after extensive and comprehensive deliberation, the committee unanimously stated that the three (3) orphaned ridings in the region would sponsor the nominations of the Hon. Alidu Seidu, MCE-Asokore Mampong, the Hon. Salisu Bamba, MCE – Ejura Sekyeredumasi and the Hon. Joseph Owusu, DCE – Sekyere Afram Plains as sole candidates for the Asawase Plains, Ejura Sekyeredumasi and Sekyere Afram Plains, respectively.

"This action fits into the party's strategy of annexing these three (3) constituencies. The party is committed to ensuring that all other actions are consistent with Article 12 (I) of the party constitution and that all party members are required to comply with this resolution. Party members who do not respect this directive will be punished according to the rules and regulations of the party constitution, "he said.

But locals reacted angrily to the move by threatening to do the unthinkable if the party did not open the constituency to the competition.

According to some youth groups, the party's regional executive committee can not determine who represents him as a parliamentary candidate before the 2020 polls, insisting that it is inappropriate to make such a decision.

"Do not dare to make such an approach because we are ready to resist with all our blood. Open the constituency for a contest and then we will determine who we want as a candidate, "said a riding official at MyNewsGh.com.
