President Akufo-Addo has appointed the Attorney General, Gloria Akuffo, to prepare and submit to Parliament a draft law containing specific legislation on vigilance in the country.
This project is also supposed to provide appropriate penalties for those who oppose it.
The directive is consistent with the president's earlier statement in his latest State of the Nation address, in which he announced his decision to legislate if the two main political parties did not dissolve their self-defense groups.

In a recent letter signed by NDC National President Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the NDC has called for the participation of external organizations such as ECOWAS, AU and civil society organizations.
"Our attempt for a solution that goes beyond the legal process would interest the institutions involved in peaceful development in Africa. This is by no means an abandonment of our sovereignty or a declaration of lack of confidence in our own abilities.
"We see it more as an act of citizenship and responsible regional and international transparency," the party noted.
The NDC also called for the involvement of the general public and entities such as the Ghana Peace Council or the various expert institutions to weigh in the debate on the issue.
