THE BAD TYPE OF HEAT …
To summarize: The show started with Stephanie McMahon and Triple-H in the ring. They recapped the matches of the next PPV, including defending Ronda Rousey's title against Ruby Riott. Triple-H said that if Ronda succeeds, she would face Becky Lynch at WrestleMania, but protect herself by saying "at least that was what was expected." whoever has finished his suspension.
Becky Lynch then came into the ring. Triple-H's apologized for his words last week and they shook hands. He recounted that Becky had seen her own doctors, who had confirmed to WWE doctors that her injury was not serious and that she would be ready for WrestleMania.
The tone changed when Stephanie informed Becky that there was only one thing left. She asked Becky to apologize for her actions. Becky, furious, told her to close her head, saying that she did not trust the McMahons, who had already baded people for decades. Stephanie and Becky had a very difficult match.
Triple-H stood between them and told Becky not to let her pride destroy her dream of WrestleMania. He said that she had until the end of the night to decide whether to apologize or not.
Subsequently, Finn Balor, backstage, said he saw the pride overtake many men, but that this should not overtake The Man.
In another behind-the-scenes segment, Carly Caruso asked Becky what she would say to her fans if she refused to apologize, which made them miss out on WrestleMania. Becky told Charly that it did not concern him.
In a mid-game game, Ronda approached Becky backstage and asked her to apologize. She explained that nausea was an opportunity for women. She then told Becky that if she did not apologize, it meant that Becky was a coward who was afraid to face him at WrestleMania.
Alexa Bliss also advised Becky not to apologize. She said it would make her look weak and let down all the women who respect her behind the scenes. Becky saw through it, saying that she knew that Alexa just wanted her slot at WrestleMania. Lexa denied this, saying that Becky would be considered a stalemate if he apologized. Becky responded by saying that if she apologized, the only thing she would sell would be WrestleMania.
In the final segment, Triple-H and Stephanie told Becky to be reasonable and to apologize as she did. Becky said she still did not trust them, but apologized reluctantly. Triple-H and Stephanie seemed satisfied, shook Becky's hand and told her she had the same result as WrestleMania.
Becky then started to beat the match and Ronda came to meet him. They were interrupted by Vince McMahon. He stated that he did not like Becky's attitude and that he did not accept his apology. He suspended her for 60 days for what she misses at WrestleMania and announced Charlotte's replacement.
Evaluation: WWE is doing a good job of taking advantage of the heat on this angle by making it the center of all shows and returning all night long.
On the other hand, while Triple-H and Stephanie clearly showed themselves as heels (at least until they accepted the excuses), Becky also seemed somewhat unreasonable in her pride.
Although the addition of Charlotte to the match certainly provides warmth, it is the wrong kind of heat. It's hot on promotion not to give fans the badociation they want, not on a heel to be a stub.
Adding Charlotte to the match in this way seems to be a ploy to divert the heat of Ronda Rousey (which the WWE seems obsessed with promoting as a babyface) by transferring it entirely to Charlotte. Again, it's a bad form of heat and a bad decision.
Provide: More than ever, Becky must win at WrestleMania.
SASHA & BAYLEY FIRST IN THE ROOM …
To summarize: After the first half of the night, Sasha and Bayley faced Nia Jax and Tamina, as well as Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan, in a Triple Threat match, with the losing team entering the elimination chamber for the first time on Sunday.
During the match, the Riott team was allied to Sasha, wounding her and sending her backstage. Bayley was then left without a partner. She valiantly fought, but finally took Nia's pin after a Samoan fall.
Evaluation: The concept behind this match was silly. Since there was no advantage to be gained, a huge penalty for losing, and teams could join members of other teams, the teams should simply have tried not to participate.
Bayley losing his partners was a disadvantage, but because of the strange rules, it was not the case, Bayley can simply add to a member of another team not to lose.
Provide: As stupid as it may be, I guess this was meant to give Sasha and Bayley some adversity to overcome to win the titles on Sunday.
NEW TAG CHAMPIONS …
To summarize: In a match just promoted and buried in the middle of the third hour, the Revival defeated Chad Gable and Bobby Roode for the titles.
Evaluation: It was a bizarre decision to announce a change of title in the worst position of the series.
Provide: Given how this title change was handled, I do not expect WWE to start taking the keyword division seriously.
