The Barcelona signature qualifies as urgent, planning transfers has gone wrong

The Catalan media have been saying for a while that central defense is not an area in which Barcelona badly needs.

Matthijs de Ligt is undeniably connected and it sounds like a transfer that could take place, but it was thought to be more of a luxury than an immediate necessity.

Central defense has been overweight, and it has been emphasized time and time again that Lucas Digne should not be replaced.

Well, a 4-4 draw with Villarreal seems to have changed everything, at least for Ernest Folch.

He wrote on Wednesday that De Ligt's signature is now "urgent" because of the problem posed by planning transfers to Barcelona.

The club's current central defenders are Samuel Umtiti, Gerard Pique, Clement Lenglet, Thomas Vermaelen, Jean-Clair Todibo and Jeison Murillo.

The last of the list is lent by Valencia and it is almost certain that it will be returned as soon as possible. The Vermaelen contract ends in the summer and we also think so, and doubt is growing around Umtiti.

The winner of the World Cup is described as "totally out of shape", which means that the Barca suffer from "Piquédependencia".

Lenglet and Umtiti got the spots against Villarreal and received 4/10 of Sport for their performance.

Both are left-handers, which, according to Folch, is problematic.

All this argues in favor of an agreement with De Ligt as soon as possible with Ajax.
